Why can't I pick up my toddler in Sims 3 for PC?

I just finished potty training my toddler and I had her use the training potty and when she was finished she just sat in front of it and I can't get her to move at all and I can't get her parents to pick her up, feed her, change her or anything. I put the action of picking her up in the queue and it stays there for like 5 seconds and then it disappears. I can't figure out what to do. My toddler just sits there getting hungrier and more tired by the minute. :/ I am afraid social services will show up soon! HELP!
